Sustainability is a core focus of the WACA Project, particularly due to the vulnerability of the Kotu Stream area, which is prone to incursion and littering. To address this, the project works closely with local councils and stakeholders, co-designing and implementing interventions to ensure community ownership of the project. By integrating these stakeholders into the planning and execution phases, the project fosters a sense of responsibility that will help ensure the long-term success of the interventions.
In addition, the project will invest in building the capacity of its partners to manage interventions and installations effectively. The project will also strengthen institutional governance through capacity needs assessments and development programs, targeting technical government agencies. By aligning policies, regulations, and laws with capacity-building efforts, the project aims to equip partners with the tools necessary to continue managing the interventions beyond the project’s lifecycle, ensuring lasting impact.
