WACA Project sets up grievance committees in all 11 communities in the Project Intervention Area to committee community-level project-related grievances.
The WACA Project, in close cooperation with local communities, including Ward Councilors, has set up community Grievance Mechanism Committees in all 11 communities in the Project Intervention Area. The committees will hear and manage project-related grievances and represent Project-Affected Persons in the implementation of safeguard measures such as health and safety at the community level.
Each committee comprises five members, with at least one community leader, a women and a youth representative. All committee members have been trained in their various responsibilities as grievance managers in their respective communities working closely with the Project staff.
“Setting up grievance mechanism committees in the communities we work in is an important step towards fulfilling our commitment to the people we serve,” said Dr. Muhammed Lamin Sanyang, WACA Gambia Project Coordinator. “We have trained them on their roles and responsibilities and will continue to work closely with them to ensure that all project-related grievances are effectively handled and resolved and that communities are adequately represented in project decisions and their wellbeing is guaranteed.”
