New hydrometric equipment installed by WACA Gambia and DWR begin transmitting data

Two new Automatic Rain Gauges (ARGs) installed along the Kotu Stream by WACA and the Department of Water Resources (DWR) of The Gambia have begun recording and transmitting data in real time. The equipment were configured in May 2024 shortly before the rainy season.

The ARGs were installed in Kotu and Sukuta to record rainfall data around the Kotu Stream. Additionally, two Water Level Recorders (WLRs) were also set up on strategic bridges across the Stream to monitor flood risks. The equipment form part of the WACA Project’s drive to strengthen the country’s early warning system and protect communities along the Stream from flooding.

“The ARGs and WLRs, which are among the best in the market, underscore our commitment to strengthen the resilience of communities in our Project Intervention Area and beyond,” said Dr Muhammed Lamin Sanyang, WACA Gambia Project Coordinator.
